The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) is the top-tier women’s football league in the US. 

The league was founded in 2013. This league is home to significant stars like Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe. NWSL features 12 teams across the United States with players all around the world. The NWSL season runs from March to October as of 2023.

Chicago Red Stars

Chicago Red Stars was founded in 2006, later joining the NWSL in 2013. The club is located in Bridgeview, Illinois. Chris Petrucelli is the head coach.

Let’s take a trip down memory lane – Tottenham Women’s Football Club began its journey in 1985 as Broxbourne Ladies. This league is where the fierce action happens in Spanish women’s football – think of it as the La Liga for women.

We’re talking serious talent here: Racheal Kundananji, Alexia Putellas, Linda Caicedo, Orga Carmona, Lucy Bronze, Asisat Oshoala, and a bunch of others making waves. Picture 16 teams battling it out in Liga F. Yep, exciting times in women’s football.

Barcelona

I’ll start with Barcelona, who won the most Liga F champions, having eight in total. Futbol Club Barcelona Femení was formed in 1988 in Barcelona, Catalonia. The club plays home matches at Estadi Johan Cruyff or Camp Nou for selected games. Jonatan Giráldez manages the Blaugrana. 

Real Madrid

Real Madrid Femenino was founded in 2014, back then known as CD TACÓN. The name TACON, which means the heel in English, is an acronym of Trabajo (work), Atrevimiento (dare/bravery), Conocimiento (knowledge), Organización (organization), Notoriedad (visibility/renown). They officially rebranded as Real Madrid CF women’s football section in 2020. They host their game matches at Alfredo Di Stéfano, Madrid, Spain. Alberto Toril heads Las Blancas (The Whites).

Real Betis

Real Betis Balompié Féminas represents the city of Seville, founded in 2011. Betis’ home is Ciudad Deportiva Luis del Sol,Seville, Andalusia, Spain. Maria Pry leads as a coach. They gained promotion to Liga F in 2016.

Sevilla FC Femenino was established in 2008, joining the top flight in 2017. Their home turf is Estadio Jesús Navas, Seville, Andalusia, Spain. Cristian Toro manages Sevilla Femenino.

Villarreal

Villarreal Club de Fútbol Femenino entered the league in the 2021-2022 season. The football club representing Villarreal was founded in 2000. The club plays at Ciudad Deportiva Villarreal CF, Villarreal, Spain. Sara Monforte heads coaching duties.

Valencia

Division 1 Féminine – (From France)

Another popular women’s league is the Division 1 Feminine. It’s France’s top-tier women’s league, founded in 1974. It’s shortened as D1 Féminine or D1F, and currently known as D1 Arkema. 

This is the league with massive talents, such as Bachmann, Wendie Renard, Ada Hegerberg, Kadidiatou Diani, etc. Here are the 12 teams in the Division 1 Feminine League.

Paris Saint-Germain

PSG was founded way back in 1971. They play at Stade Jean-Bouin in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Paris. Jocelyn Prêcheur is the head coach running the show at PSG these days. 

Olympique Lyonnais

Popularly known as Lyon, it’s a club founded in 1970. OL is based in Lyon and plays its home matches at Stade Gérard Houllier, Décines-Charpieu. Sonia Bompastor took over as Lyon’s manager in 2021.

Montpellier

Montpellier Hérault Sport Club Féminines represent the city of Montpellier. They were established in 1990 back then under the name Montpellier-Le-Crès. The club plays its home matches at the Stade Joseph-Blanc. Frédéric Mendy is the head coach of Montpellier. 

Bordeaux

Paris FC

Paris FC began its journey back in 1971 as Étoile Sportive de Juvisy-sur-Orge. This club has gone through quite a transformation in names over the years. Initially, in 1971, it kicked off as ES Juvisy-sur-Orge. Later, in 1985, it switched to FCF Juvisy Essonne. Finally, in 2017, it settled into the name we know today, Paris FC. They play home games at Stade Robert Bobin in Bondoufle, which is just a stone’s throw away from Paris. Leading this spirited team is Sandrine Soubeyrand, the head coach.

Guingamp

This football club kicked off its journey in 1973, wearing the name Chaffoteaux Sports Saint-Brieuc. As time passed, they had a few name makeovers – in 1999, they became Saint-Brieuc FF, then in 2003, transformed into Stade Briochin, and by 2009, they proudly embraced EA Guingamp. Dijon Football Côte d’Or women’s football club was founded in 2006. They play at Dijon’s ground, Stade des Poussettes. The coach is Yannick Chandioux. 

Saint-Étienne

Association Sportive de Saint-Étienne Loire was founded in 1977 as Racing Club de Saint-Étienne. They later adopted their current name in 2009. They host their home games at Stade Salif-Keita, Saint-Étienne. joined the top flight in 2020. Manager Laurent Mortel leads them.

Le Havre

The Mazatlán Futbol Club Femenil was founded in 2020. It is one of the newest teams in Liga MX Femenil. Catch their home matches at Estadio de Mazatlán, Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico. José Alonso Madrigal is the Interim head coach of the Las Cañoneras. 

Puebla

Puebla joined Liga MX Femenil in 2019. It was founded in 2018. Puebla Femenil plays at Estadio Cuauhtémoc Puebla, Mexico. Former defender María José López manages the Sweet Potatoers.
